Today was a beautiful day, even if the Texas heat tried its best to slow us down. The heat index hit 107 degrees according to my thermometer, and when temperatures climb like that, it’s not just uncomfortable — it becomes a safety concern. We have to be mindful of our employees, our materials, and the homes we’re working in. Extreme heat affects everything: hydration, energy levels, and even the performance of construction products.

Despite the heat, we accomplished quite a bit today and made sure our clients were taken care of. One situation in particular stood out because it’s a perfect example of why details matter in construction.

We had flooring acclimating in a client’s home — a standard and necessary step to ensure the material adjusts to the temperature and humidity of the environment before installation. The flooring had been in the home for seven days, which is exactly what we needed. However, when we arrived this morning, the HVAC company was already there working on an issue. The homeowner hadn’t contacted us because they use their own HVAC provider, but the problem had been ongoing for four days.

That meant the flooring had been sitting in a house without proper climate control for more than half its acclimation period. Without stable temperature and humidity, flooring can warp, bend, or fail prematurely. And we don’t gamble with our clients’ homes or our reputation.

So we made the responsible decision: reschedule the installation for next week. It wasn’t ideal for anyone’s schedule, but it was the right call. Quality work lasts. Rushed work doesn’t.
